KK Park constitutes one of several deception compounds positioned along the Myanmar-Thai frontier

The Burmese armed forces claims it has seized one of the most well-known scam compounds on the boundary with Thai territory, as it retakes important territory surrendered in the ongoing civil war.

KK Park, located south of the boundary community of Myawaddy, has been synonymous with internet scams, cash cleaning and forced labor for the previous five-year period.

Countless people were lured to the facility with guarantees of well-paid employment, and then coerced to run sophisticated frauds, taking billions of money from targets throughout the globe.

The junta, historically stained by its associations to the deception business, now claims it has occupied the facility as it extends authority around Myawaddy, the key economic route to Thailand.

Junta Advancement and Tactical Objectives

In the past few weeks, the military has repelled rebels in several areas of Myanmar, seeking to increase the amount of territories where it can organize a scheduled poll, commencing in December.

It still hasn't mastered significant territories of the state, which has been divided by hostilities since a government overthrow in February 2021.

The poll has been rejected as a sham by resistance groups who have pledged to block it in regions they hold.

Establishment and Growth of KK Park

KK Park began with a rental contract in the first part of 2020 to build an industrial park between the ethnic organization (KNU), the ethnic insurgent organization which dominates much of this area, and a unfamiliar HK listed company, Huanya International.

Researchers think there are relationships between Huanya and a influential Chinese mafia personality Wan Kuok Koi, better known as Broken Tooth, who has subsequently invested in additional fraud hubs on the border.

The facility grew rapidly, and is easily visible from the Thailand border of the boundary.

Those who succeeded to get away from it recount a harsh system established on the thousands, many from African countries, who were detained there, forced to labor excessive periods, with torture and beatings administered on those who did not manage to meet objectives.

Current Actions and Announcements

A declaration by the regime's communications department said its personnel had "cleared" KK Park, freeing more than 2,000 laborers there and seizing 30 of Elon Musk's Starlink internet equipment – extensively employed by deception centers on the Thai-Myanmar boundary for digital operations.

The announcement accused what it described as the "extremist" ethnic organization and volunteer militia units, which have been fighting the junta since the coup, for wrongfully occupying the area.

The junta's declaration to have dismantled this well-known fraud centre is very likely aimed at its primary patron, China.

Beijing has been pressuring the military and the Thai government to do more to terminate the criminal activities run by Asian networks on their border.

In previous months thousands of China-based laborers were removed of deception facilities and sent on chartered planes back to China, after Thailand eliminated availability to energy and energy resources.

Broader Context and Persistent Functions

But KK Park is only one of at least 30 similar facilities situated on the border.

A large portion of these are under the protection of ethnic Karen militia groups associated to the military, and most are still active, with countless people managing frauds inside them.

In fact, the assistance of these armed units has been essential in enabling the military drive back the KNU and other resistance factions from area they seized over the recent two-year period.

The armed forces now governs the vast majority of the highway connecting Myawaddy to the remainder of Myanmar, a target the junta established before it holds the initial phase of the poll in December.

It has taken Lay Kay Kaw, a new town established for the KNU with Japan-based investment in 2015, a era when there had been expectations for lasting peace in Karen State following a nationwide peace agreement.

That represents a more substantial setback to the KNU than the seizure of KK Park, from which it obtained limited funds, but where the majority of the monetary benefits were directed to pro-junta paramilitary forces.

A well-placed source has indicated that scam activities is continuing in KK Park, and that it is probable the junta took control of just a portion of the extensive facility.

The insider also suspects Beijing is supplying the Burmese military inventories of China-based persons it desires taken from the deception compounds, and returned back to face trial in China, which may explain why KK Park was targeted.
